CELEBRATE THEIR SUCCESS
Each year since 1989, parents, friends and family members make the annual commitment to give all Benicia
Graduates a SAFE and FUN place to spend their graduation night. No more driving around looking for another
graduation party to go to. Calling friends to meet them to celebrate together. Parents helplessly Grad Night is
basically a “homemade” gift from the underclassman families and the community to the senior class and their
families. It is totally run by Benicia parent volunteers and paid for by funds received through donations and fund
raisers. It allows the senior families to enjoy this special graduation time with their grad, friends and family, and
then they can safely send their new graduate off to Grad Night to enjoy an awesome all night party in a safe
environment filled with hours of fun, entertainment, food and prizes. When your student becomes a graduating
senior, they too will reap the benefits from this time-honored tradition. This program benefits ALL current and
future Benicia Students!
Thanks to the dedication of the 200+ volunteers and the generous donations from the families and businesses
in our great town, Benicia Graduates will have a Graduation Celebration to springboard them to the future of their
dreams and bring them home safely.
In Benicia, we look after our kids. Grad Night is just another example of the tremendous commitment to family
that makes Benicia such a great community.
A Benicia TRADITION SINCE 1989
- by Pam Stanbrough
Benicia Grad Night began in 1989 at a monthly BHS PTA meeting. We all wanted a safe and fun place for all of
our seniors to go after graduation. It was already late into the school year but there were 3 or 4 parents of
seniors at the meeting who decided then and there to do all they could to put on a Grad Night that year. We
found that we not only had the backing of school administrators but the faculty and the community at large (and
the Adobe boys who we could not have done without!). The Stutzman’s, Scott’s, Bertellotti’s, Holland’s and
Stanbrough's started meeting on a regular basis. We picked the brains of Grad Night committee members at
other schools across the bay that had been successfully putting on Grad Nights for a couple of years. We
started dividing up into committees – most couples taking 2 and 3 committees until we could find other parents
to take over as chairs. Soon we had all the committees filled and fund raising began! It was a tremendous
undertaking but well worth the effort. Our first theme was “USS Panther Cruise Lines” and it was a huge
success! Working with such a dedicated and fun bunch of parents to make it happen was probably one of the
best experiences of our lives!
